College student question: What’s the most important thing to keep in mind? It’s not your grades. It’s your health. Even if you’re young, you still need to maintain your well-being. This isn’t just a matter of avoiding illnesses like the flu. It’s also about keeping your body in shape, both physically and mentally. Here’s how to make time for your health in college:

Eat Right

You might romanticize the notion of being a college student living on ramen noodles. It’s fun for a couple days, but you need nutrition in order to be healthy. You don’t have to spend a great amount of money either. Look for affordable and healthy meals all around you. When eating out, look for options that will be kind to your wallet and body.

Get Enough Sleep

Just because your mom isn’t around doesn’t mean you should shirk on sleep. A healthy body and mind require sleep. If you aren’t getting at least seven hours of sleep on a regular basis, it can affect your mood and your health. Make sure you go to bed at a set time every night. You’ll be amazed by how much of a difference getting enough sleep will make.

Go to the Doctor

Doctor appointments aren’t just for when you fall ill. You can be perfectly healthy and benefit from talking to a physician. Schedule an appointment to get things like your blood pressure and cholesterol checked. If they have any recommendations, you should absolutely follow them. Even if you’re not an NCAA athlete, you should still be getting some exercise. One of the most common excuses for not exercising is not having enough time. However, it doesn’t need to completely upend your schedule. Put aside 15-20 minutes in the morning to use for working out. It can be as simple as some aerobics in your dorm. The more you keep it up, the better you’ll feel and the further you’ll want to go. Your mind, as well as your body, will feel great through exercising.

College students are busy by design. However, there’s no such thing as being too busy to be healthy. You need to prioritize your well-being above all else.
