Commit Yourself To a Routine

While your classes probably already have you on a regular schedule, it’s important as well that you designate consistent times to work. Routines train our brains to provide our bodies with certain amounts of energy, depending on the time of day. It’s for this reason that going to bed at the same time each night makes it easier to fall asleep. By the same principle, setting aside the same sections of time each day for homework allows you to better maintain your focus and, therefore, speed through tasks.

With friends, extracurriculars, and, of course, classes, it can feel like there isn’t enough time in the day. This skill allows you to appropriately divide your time based on priorities and your overall confidence levels. After all, sleep is crucial for your health, and you can’t expect to be productive if you’re constantly feeling tired. This isn’t all, though. In fact, better sleep can also improve your mood and reduce a lot of the stress that can start to hold you back toward the middle or end of a semester. For these reasons, it’s best to get a full eight hours of sleep each night.

Work in a Place That Heightens Focus

It can help as well to start working in a place that promotes a higher degree of focus for you. For some, this may be the library or a study center, while others might be fine in their dorm rooms. The location will vary based on the type of worker you are and how easily you tend to become distracted. Find a place where you can home in on your projects and simply devote yourself to the learning process.
